StudenT ProjectsOur Digital Tales is a collection of fictional stories completely written, illustrated, narrated and produced by sixth graders at IS 49. To create each tale, students used a plot diagram to outline their story. Next, they took a pencil and paper and drew the illustrations for each key scene. Students scanned these outlines into their computers to prepare them to be shaded in Adobe Photoshop. After learning the basics of Photoshop, students painstakingly colored each drawing. When the drawings were complete, students returned to their stories to turn their outlines into a narrative, enhancing the stories with dialogue and setting descriptions. Students then stepped into the recording booth to digitize their narration. To make these stories sound better, students analyzed their digital audio in Garage Band to remove verbal mistakes and background noise. Some also added sound effects to make their stories pop. With all the digital materials in place, it was time to produce. Students added their illustrations and narration into iMovie where they sequenced key points in the audio with changes in illustrations. To give their story movement, they added Ken Burns style pans and fades. As a finishing touch, students added a title with introductory sound effects. If you have any questions or comments, please submit them using the form below. To view each tale, click on the picture of a story and the movie will pop in a new window. Enjoy.
